About Sage
Sage Goldsmith was born in 1977 in Vermont. She currently resides on the Island of Nantucket, Massachusetts and in New York City. She has been painting since she was old enough to hold a paint brush. She was exposed to painting by her grandmother, Sybil Goldsmith, a well established portrait and landscape painter. Sadly, Sybil passed away in January of 2005 at 87 years old. She will be sorely missed as Sage's mentor, but will remain a continued inspiration in her work. Sage and Sybil had annual art exhibits together on Nantucket during the summers of 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. They were very successful at these shows, selling most of the paintings. Sage has also had solo exhibits held in Northeast Harbor, Maine; Palm Beach, Florida; Burlington, Vermont; Stowe, Vermont; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Darien, Conneticut. Sage's work can be seen at her Nantucket studio by appointment (508) 228-9291; at the Artist's Association of Nantucket at 19 Washington Street; and at the Westmoor Club at 10 Westmoor Lane off of Cliff Road.
Sage attended Holderness School in New Hampshire where she established a wonderful relationship with her art teacher. Sage's art teacher recognized her talent and pushed her to further develop her work. This exposure to different art classes and students was a great way for Sage to see many different styles and techniques.
After graduating from Holderness School in 1995 Sage attended the University of Vermont. She graduated in May of 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art. Throughout her college career Sage's main focus was always in painting. She spent a semester in Italy for one summer studying painting and art history in the many museums Italy has to offer. Being in Italy was very inspirational for Sage to further her work in oil painting.
Sage also experienced living out west in Lake Tahoe, California. She continued her studies in oil painting with a well known local artist. This instruction included the accompaniment of a concentrated group of accomplished artists all shown in various galleries themselves. They would paint all day breaking only to critique each others work. This was a period where Sage's painting took a big stride ahead.
Sage has studied at the Art Student's League of New York located at 215 West 57th Street. Sage was there for the winter and spring of 2004 and 2005. She studied portrait painting under accomplished artists Frank Mason and Jack Faragasso. They worked from live models which changed weekly. Sage's knowledge of flesh tones greatly expanded. Currently, Sage is attending the New York Studio School located at 8 West 8th Street. She is focusing on portrait drawing and painting under artist Ron Milewicz.
On Nantucket Island Sage has launched into the art world. She was accepted into the Nantucket Artist's Association in 2001 which consists of a group of talented Nantucket artists. Sage has had both solo and group shows where her success proves to lead to a promising future in oil painting.
Sage has begun illustrating a children's book titled "The Runaway Umbrella." It will be the second children's book for author Frances Scarcille. "The Runaway Umbrella" is a work in progress and will be posted upon completion.
